Character Name: Cyrano de Bergerac
Series: Cyrano de Bergerac (Martin Crimp theatrical adaptation)
Character History: Wiki for the source material.
However, this is a modern adaptation Cyrano comes from, which means his world is a pastiche of the current age and 1640s Paris. He speaks in mostly modern slang and parlance, understands modern technology and parlance, but most of the source material remains the same: his cousin is the first woman to attend university, she's being married off against her will, and Cyrano's attitudes towards women, while enlightened for his time, are colored by these attitudes and beliefs./;
Personality: Cyrano is a man first, a poet second, and a soldier third. One funnels into the other: his passion inspires his writing, and it is his writing that gives him strength and ferocity as a soldier...and it is his status and his skill as a soldier that is his protection when the vulnerability of the man comes into play.
As the victim of a facial deformity that makes him a target for mockery, Cyrano has a softer side as a result: he sympathizes with those who have been beaten down by life, he appreciates beauty beyond the superficial, and he finds far more worth in the inner worlds of others rather than their social standing, gender, or reputation. He thrives on human connection, and due to his lack of it in an intimate capacity he is highly sensitive to it. This makes him a violently loyal friend and a man with a huge capacity for love--so much so that it transcends his preference for women when he experiences a fleeting instant of intimacy with another man.
He relishes respect, but he doesn't want to be feared if he can help it--but fear alone keeps his fellow recruits in check and protects his fragile heart. He thrives on adulation and dreams of fame, but he is protective of his poetry, the deepest reflections of his soul--and he is left destitute due to his love of words when he pays his life savings to take a pretender off of the stage of the local theater, to say nothing of the moment he rejects the patronage of Cardinal Richelieu himself lest he be censored.
And he craves love, above all things--but has been broken by rejection, and would ultimately rather sacrifice his own happiness to see the object of his dearest affection find her own.
Abilities: Cyrano is an expert swordsman, marksman, and fighter, and once took on a hundred men with little more than a wound to his hand. He's also a master of the word, spoken and written--few can best him in a battle of wits, and he is an infamously gifted poet. Beyond that? Bog standard human.
Six Items: His military sidearm (with a clip full of ammo), a notebook containing some of his dearest poetry with room to fill it further, a photograph of Roxane, a beaten up copy of The Iliad, a flask of brandy, and a small pocket telescope.
Character Samples:
Sample 1: Cyrano commiserates with a fellow soldier.
Sample 2:
[When the feed comes to life, a stern face graces the network. The face would be handsome were it not for an overlarge nose marring otherwise ruggedly good looking features, distorting his profile and other portions of his features just enough to spoil their beauty.
His eyes, however, can't be spoiled--they're bright blue and glittering with intelligence, life--and no small measure of anger.]
Bonjour--hello.
[His French is flawless...and yet he speaks with a mostly Scottish accent. Go figure.]
I'm told I should introduce myself, and so I shall. Cyrano de Bergerac--I'm a cadet with the Gascogne.
[He moves to shut his device off...then stops himself, his features twisting with something nameless...
He thinks of someone he met on his arrival--the girl with the dark hair. The little silver violet.
He takes a breath--and this time, he makes an effort.]
I, ehm...I wouldn't mind meetin' some comrades in arms. [A beat.]
Or...perhaps...fellow poets and writers, if there be any among you. Merci--thank you in advance.

Character: Cyrano De Bergerac
Series/Canon: Cyrano De Bergerac (Theatrical Adaptation)
From When? Just before the marriage of Roxane and Christian, after he has been asked to waylay de Guiche so he won't interfere with the ceremony.
Previous Game(s): N/A
World Description: (Original Characters Only) Adding this because of the nature of canon. Cyrano comes from the Martin Crimp adaptation produced for the London National Theater. To that end, his world is the modern one we know today, with bleeds into the 1897 world of the original play at points crucial to maintain the spirit of the piece: his cousin is still the first woman to attend university, he is still a member of the Gascogne (albeit as a modern military operation), and dueling is still common. Other idiosyncrasies will likely pop up as well during play due to the nature of his canon--such as the fact that Cyrano is a Frenchman, but speaks with a Scottish accent. Cyrano's disfigurement is also less pronounced--enough to easily distinguish him from any facetwin, but lacking the cartoonish exaggeration often featured in most productions.

Does your character have any close ties to existing canon characters? N/A
Why do you think your character would work in this setting? Cyrano is a lost soul--heartbroken, defeated, convinced of his own repulsiveness despite his many talents. He believes he's a coward for leaving for New Dodge so he didn't have to be complicit or even witness the woman he loves marry another man. Part of him is hoping to discover enlightened minds in the far reaches of the galaxy--he believes in aliens, even does a scene pretending to be a moon man in the play! New Dodge is a fresh start for him, a place to hide his shame, but as he settles in he will find it's actually what he hoped for to start with: a place where he will no longer be judged for his appearance, where he no longer has to be the deadliest man in the room to be respected.
How do you plan to expand their CR? Cyrano is an artist, a performer, and as such he gravitates towards people. He draws on them for inspiration, needs them to make his voice heard. He's also a man capable of incredible depths of love and loyalty--without people, he can become lost in his own head and self loathing, and as such strives to maintain at least a small circle of friends and confidants lest he swallow himself up. However, given what a loudmouth Cyrano can be, his circle of both friends and enemies is likely to grow large, and fast. :P
What will your character do for work? Cyrano is a soldier, a poet, and an artist. If he cannot find work in the arts, he will seek out whatever work he can find, be it with his blade or the simple sweat of his brow.

He operates the TC with a grim look of frustration--but once he's sure he's broadcasting, his expression softens.

Hello. My name is Cyrano, I'm new here. I...ah...ehm...I've a question.
[His accent is heavy, but hard to place. It's definitely French, but there's something else in there muddling it...a brogue, perhaps?...]
I need a means to make my way if I'm to settle here. My skills are few, but well honed. I'm a writer, but barring that? Is there a military organization in this place? I'm a soldier, I want to serve. I...
